In the next webinar from Brass Bands England, our Brass Bands Archivist will explain the ins and outs of emergency preparedness for cultural collections.
What is emergency preparedness for archives?
Emergencies can impact archives at any time. From flooding to fire to cybersecurity breaches, the modern world poses many risks to archives and heritage collections. Having a proactive plan in place to limit risk and mitigate emergencies when they happen will reduce the impact of disasters for brass bands and banders, ensuring that the rich history and heritage of the collections will be accessible for generations to come.
What will be gained?
Kaitlynn will share practical information and actionable steps for bands and banders to preserve their collections and increase preparedness for facing emergency situations. Her guidance is grounded in extensive experience with conservation and archival preservation for a variety of social history archives in England, Scotland, and Germany.
The webinar will cover:
- Types of disasters, and their impact to collections
- What is an emergency preparedness plan, and why you need one
- How to develop a plan for your band
- Practical tips for risk reduction and planning for emergencies
The webinar will consist of a slideshow presentation, with optional participation components, and a question-and-answer (Q&A) session at the end.
As a result of this presentation, attendees will gain a greater appreciation for emergency preparedness planning, understand the value of an emergency plan, build a toolkit for unplanned high-risk events, and increase their band's overall resiliency to emergency situations.
