Katrina Marzella-Wheeler was a guest adjudicator at this year’s BBCA flagship Conducting Competition.

The event was sponsored by Yamaha and saw ten semi-finalists conduct test pieces with the Hammonds Band and five finalists take to the podium in a special Gala Concert with Elland Silver Band.

Between the semi-final and the final at Halifax Minster, the Brass Band Conductors’ Association caught up with Katrina for a short interview and asked her:

  • Why are conducting competitions valuable?
  • What’s been the highlight of your day so far?
  • What advice would you share with an aspiring conductor?
