Event description

The second round of Brass Bands England's 'Elevate' programme sees Weymouth Concert Brass collaborate with  composer and analogue synth specialist Rebecca Denniff, resulting in a place-based composition reflecting the herbs and plants of the band's local area.

This composition will premiere at the annual Weymouth Concert Brass Band in the Park event in the stunning Radipole Gardens on Sunday 14th July, 14:00 - 16:00, as part of National Brass Band Week.

Even better, it’s free entry.

Why not bring a picnic, lay out your rug or chairs, and enjoy Weymouth Concert Brass and Rebecca Denniff colaborate for 'Keep in Thyme'.

Weymouth Concert Brass

Weymouth Concert Brass was formed in 1985, when two gentlemen placed an advert in the Dorset Echo requesting anyone interested in re-establishing a band to attend a meeting. Since its formation, the band has gone from strength to strength with a committed regular membership of 28 players who meet weekly.

The Band plays an active role in the community with a varied calendar entertaining audiences in Weymouth, Portland and surrounding areas by providing music for Charity Fundraising Events; Concerts; Competitions; Services of Remembrance; Shows; Fetes; Cruise Calls; and Carnivals.

Weymouth Concert Brass is a contesting band and has taken part in the WEBBA, SWBBA and WBBA annual contests, including the National Finals. The Band competes in the Fourth section of the West of England region.

Rebecca Denniff

Rebecca Denniff is a musician, composer, sound designer and community practitioner living and working in the North York Moors National Park. As a composer, Rebecca is frequently invited to create choral works, including commissions from Whitby Community Choir through the BBC Performing Arts Fund, the North York Moors National Park, and Arcade.

Rebecca makes music about places and spaces and creates soundscapes that directly respond to the landscape. Rebecca geolocates her compositions using field recordings and What 3 Words to pinpoint the place that inspired the music. Rebecca uses a semi-modular analogue synthesist and loves to make and record sounds in unconventional ways, including the use of loops and sound manipulation.
