As a registered umbrella body, Brass Bands England aim to process DBS applications quickly and without any fuss for bands.
This service is free of charge for volunteers of member bands, but a charge per DBS check will be made for applications for professional positions or applications received from non-member bands and other organisations.
It is very important that all bands use DBS checks, in order to safeguard their members. We advise you to take a look at the procedures you have in place to ensure they are up to date.
We advise that any members who work directly with young people agree to a DBS check. In most cases, if you apply for a grant or apply for charitable status, you will need to have your DBS checks in place.
The officer of the band who will be dealing with the DBS forms can request them by completing the form here. Remember, not every adult in a band is eligible to be DBS checked, it depends on their role within a band. Being an adult member of a band which has children in it, is not enough reason to warrant a DBS check. For more information on which roles are elligible, see our DBS resource in the Member Resources area. Please note, completed forms should be returned to BBE marked for the attention of the Safeguarding Officer.
If you have any queries, as a first port of call, see our DBS FAQ page. If you still require more information or assistance concerning your DBS applications please contact safeguarding@bbe.org.uk.
