With the Area contests approaching BBCA talks to Andrea Price and Jacob de Haan about the inspiration behind their works, both of which have been chosen as 2025 Area Test pieces. Hear first hand from Andrea about the meaning of her piece ‘I, Daedalus’, Daedalus being a prominent figure in Greek mythology, which will be used for this year’s 4th section piece. Jacob de Haan is the composer of ‘Arkansas’, a suite based on a well-known folk tune from Arkansas. He will talk about the background and composing of his piece, which has been chosen to test bands in the 3rd section. There will be an opportunity for questions towards the end of the session. This BBCA event is free to members and £5 to non-members. The Brass Band Conductors’ Association is focused on providing support and bringing together conductors and those interested in picking up the baton from all over the world. BBCA’s 90+ members have access to a mentoring scheme, members directory and a free professional DBS check alongside ongoing resources and peer support.
