Aldbourne Band is a long established Brass Band based in Aldbourne near Marlborough – Wiltshire, originally formed in 1860 by the church organist. The Bands aim is to provide consistently high standards of music performances on both the concert and contest platform.
The Band presents on average 14 concerts each year along with 4 contests which are essential in maintaining and testing the playing standards. Many of the concerts are now long established events, and these include our summer season of open air concerts by the pond in Aldbourne – Wiltshire. The “Pond Concerts” take place on the first Sunday of June, July, August and September in the evening apart from August, where since 2005 a Proms concert has entertained approximately 1000 people on the village green.
The Band’s competing history goes back before the first World War and during the 1920’s and 30’s achieved great acclaim performing at the Crystal Palace in London. In 1981 the Band won the West of England Championships and competed at the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall as well as representing the area on BBC 2’s “Best of Brass”. The Band for the last few years has maintained its standard as one of the top five Bands in the West of England and competes as far afield as Blackpool as part of the “British Open Spring Festival”.
The Band is financially self supporting with its income coming from player subscriptions and concerts and therefore would be open for offers of sponsorship from companies who would be interested in either globally sponsoring the Band or even sponsoring individual engagements. If you require more information on the Band please do not hesitate to contact us.
The village is located in a triangle on the map between Marlborough, Newbury and Swindon and just a 15 minute car journey from the M4 junction 14 or 15. We rehearse every Tuesday and Friday evening from 8-10pm.
