Main Titles from Star Wars
John Williams
John Williams is considered a living legend as the composer of some of the most famous film music of our age. Williams wrote all the music for the Star Wars films from the first film in 1977 through to the most recent in 2019.
The music features brass instruments in the theme of its main title with the use of fanfare-like tunes, triplet rhythms and a big, expansive tune. Williams' writing for brass instruments creates a powerful and commanding backdrop to this epic story.
Imagine being the trumpet player that was given the job of playing the start of this music. Of course, at the time of recording the soundtrack, Maurice Murphy, the principal trumpet player of the London Symphony Orchestra had no idea what a success it would be.
Maurice Murphy said of himself, "I’m just another trumpeter who’s been very lucky." John Williams, on the other hand, described the “amazing, electrifying moment" when he heard Murphy launch into the opening bars of Star Wars, the sound that created "the voice of a hero".
