The ambitious, large-scale EBBC 2023 will see a full week of events taking place in the city of Malmö, Sweden, between 29 April and 7 May 2023 and will encompass the European Brass Band Championships in association with World of Brass.
Organised by Brassmusik Skåne (BMS), the event will see bands from across Europe gather in a celebration of music-making and the most important and prestigious contest in the brass event calendar. As well as competing bands, the programme of events will include performances from the renowned composer of art music, Britta Byström, and her work “The Bell Tolls”; will be premiered. Ola Salo, front man in the rock group The Ark, will also have a work for choir and brass band premiered. The Malmö Symphony Orchestra will pay a tribute to Brass with trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger as a soloist.
Ulf Rosenberg, President of the European Brass Band Association, commented: "The European brass band family will be in Sweden for the first time, and we are looking forward immensely to what promises to be a fantastic event. Brassmusik Skåne has assembled an outstanding programme of events and performers which includes the cultural life in Malmö. The venue for the championships, Malmö Live, is excellent for brass bands. This is an occasion not to be missed by any lovers of our music!”
Bo Winborg, president of Brassmusik Skåne adds: ”After years of preparation, and cancelled events, we are now ready to invite you to Malmö. My colleagues and I have done our utmost to make a visit to Malmö well worth a whole week of your life, but also during a long weekend, Malmö has time to offer great and memorable experiences.
