Wouldn’t most bands consider themselves welcoming to all and go out of their way to accommodate members who need some sort of support, physically or otherwise? But does your band have an understanding of the law and best practice relating to disability? What reasonable adjustments are expected to be made and how confident are you that disabled members can fully participate?
Brass Bands England are delighted to partner with experts at Goss Consultancy to deliver a training session focused on promoting ‘Disability Confidence’. This 50-minute interactive virtual session will look at how we can work together to ensure we are disability confident, that is, we are welcoming and supporting disabled people in the brass banding sector.
The course provides a comprehensive understanding of the law and best practice relating to disability. It aims to help bands minimise the legal and reputational risks of getting it wrong when it comes to working with disabled people and benefit from the very real organisational advantages of getting it right.
Course objectives
- An understanding of what disability is
- An overview of The Equality Act 2010 and the social model of disability and how they relate to supporting members.
- An understanding of the concept of 'reasonable adjustments' and what this means in relation to serving disabled members.
- Greater confidence in serving disabled members.
Please note: This will be involving and challenging. We therefore recommend that you aim to create the space in your diary to ensure that you are able to be fully present for the duration of the session and use the break as an opportunity to get up and away from your desk.
This online training will take place on Tuesday 1 March at 7pm. Valued at £25 per person, it is being subsidised by BBE to allow individuals to participate from just £5. Take advantage of this one-off training opportunity – places are limited!
