Only a few weeks remain until the European Brass Band Festival begins in England for the first time in 15 years, kicking off with the Prelude Concert. This collaboration between the NYBBGB and Royal Marines Band Service (RMBS) is born from their solid partnership, which formed amongst the uncertainty of the past few years has continued to go from strength to strength.
The performance and educational projects partnership has been an invaluable source of inspiration and information, with the Royal Marines hosting educational sessions at the NYBBGB Easter course in 2021, as well as collaborating with the charity on a new outreach programme. This exciting venture will be both online and in person, and aims to improve skills and musicianship whilst raising the aspirations of young brass musicians.
Furthering the excellence in music education, the RMBS will also be co hosting an event for 700 school local children on the day of their joint charity concert with the NYBBGB Youth Band. This event aims to inspire anyone with a love of music into the workings of a brass band and where that musicianship can take you.
After the education event, an evening charity concert in aid of the NYBBGB bursary fund and Brass Bands England Heritage Fund will be an opportunity to celebrate the partnership so far, and will form part of the NYYBBGB’s 70th anniversary year. NYBBGB CEO Mark Bromely said:
“The NYBBGB is about encouraging excellence in brass band music and our relationship with the RMBS is helping us to further that mission and outreach. The education event we are co hosting prior to our charity concert will be a unique opportunity for 700 children to experience world class music tuition and guidance, and hopefully inspire the next generation of brass band musicians.
It would then be lovely to see some of those same faces joining the audience for our charity concert as the NYBBGB showcase the best young brass players in the country alongside the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, one of the UK’s finest military bands “
Tickets for the concert are available via the B:music website.
The European Brass Band Festival has been organised by the European Brass Band Association and Brass Bands England.
