The annual Malcolm Arnold Festival, taking place on Saturday 14 - Sunday 15 October, will take place in Malcolm’s birthplace of Northampton. This will be followed by the online festival, scheduled for Sunday 29 October.
On the Saturday of the event, the Championship Section BBE member Enderby Band will take to the stage to perform a selection of Arnold pieces for brass. These will include many of the tracks that BBE member Foden’s Band will be recording for the Malcolm Arnold CD, a fundraising effort to open up more of Arnold’s repertoire that is due in March next year.
On the project, Ken Talbot of the Malcolm Arnold Society commented: “We, along with the Holst Society and Bliss Society are keen to encourage a greater understanding of the works of 'classical’ composers in the brass community and create an enlarged repertoire for brass bands to play. The Vaughan Williams Society, of course, released the ‘Vaughan Williams on Brass CD’ last year which has proved very popular.”
The concert will be held at the Northampton Museum and Art Gallery, bringing one of Northampton’s most famous musical artists and brass music together right in the centre of the town.
Steve Philips, the MD at Enderby, added: “We’re really pleased to be able to work on this wonderful project with the Malcolm Arnold Society to bring a greater appreciation of Malcolm’s music for brass to everyone in our banding community.”
Tickets are available at WeGotTickets for £12.
