BBE is delighted to announce that its flagship education programme ‘Brass Foundations’ has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Music & Drama Education Awards in the Outstanding Musical Initiative category.
The Music & Drama Education Awards celebrate the extraordinary contribution made by individuals, companies, charities, schools and other organisations to the lives of others through the medium of the two key performing arts. The Outstanding Musical Initiative category sponsored by the Royal Marines Band Service sees significant organisations such as Opera North, Awards for Young Musicians and National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain shortlisted alongside Brass Bands England. Sarah Baumann, BBE’s Education and Development Manager, commented: “Myself and the entire BBE team are overwhelmed and delighted at receiving the news that we have been shortlisted. Our Brass Foundations programme, still less than two years old, is going from strength to strength creating opportunities for young people across the country to experience brass. This is a fantastic step for the team, placing us as a prominent organisation in the music education sector. Providing opportunities for children and young people who would otherwise never have access to brass banding has never been more important, and we are very grateful that Arts Council England has recognised the importance of our work in our recent uplift in core funding. Many thanks to the Music Education Hubs, bands and schools who have worked with us to make music happen.”
Winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony in February 2023 with winners and highly commended projects chosen by a prominent panel of judges with knowledge and expertise in the sector.
Brass Foundations is Brass Bands England's education programme, led by a team of Youth Development Brass Specialists who have years of collective experience and skills in performing, teaching and inspiring. They are currently delivering activity in five target areas (Warwickshire, Camden, Hertfordshire, Lancashire and Gloucestershire), but provide support further afield where possible.
This has been made possible thanks to the support of our funders Arts Council England, the Garfield Weston Foundation, Foyle Foundation and the Schroder Charity Trust.
