Brass Bands England (BBE) has carried out the draw for the 2022 National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain (Youth Champs), which promises a fantastic weekend of music making as it returns after a two-year pandemic-enforced absence. 31 bands are due to perform at Corby Business Academy on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 March, three more than at the last event in 2019. Tickets to attend the event are on sale now.
To make the draw, which you can rewatch on the BBE Facebook page, BBE’s Partnership and Relationship Development Manager, Alex Parker, was joined by Iwan Fox of 4barsrest.com at the recent Butlins Contest. The BBE team was also joined by Euan Meikle, Besson’s UK and Ireland Sales Manager, to make the draw for the Besson Prodige Debut Section, which has seen entries increase dramatically since its launch in 2019.
The event itself will kick off with the Elementary Section at 10.55 am on Saturday 26 March and is scheduled to conclude with the Championship Section results at 6.45 pm on Sunday (27th), with longstanding compère, David Hayward, joined again this year by children’s television personality, Dave Benson Phillips. Speaking about the event, Alex Parker commented: “We are very excited to see the Youth Champs return in 2022 with such a great number of entries. The Youth Champs was one of the first brass band events to be cancelled due to the pandemic and our team at BBE has been working tirelessly throughout to support bands in order to see it return in such a healthy state.”
BBE can also reveal that it is planning a series of performances and workshops to take place over the weekend so that participants can enjoy a full day out at the Championships. Alex continued: “Corby Business Academy is a terrific venue for the Youth Champs to take place in a Covid-safe way. Our participants are preparing to give their long-awaited performances, some for the first time in three years and some for the first time ever! Tickets are still available from the BBE website. We hope to see you there!”
