At the tail-end of 2024 Youth Brass Development Specialist, and Classic FM’s Visiting Music Teacher of the Year, Helen Minshall travelled to Cumbria to host her final workshops of the year in partnership with Cumbria Music Hub.
Over two separate days, school children from across Cockermouth and Sedbergh were able to take up a brass instrument in Whole Class introductory sessions.
The first workshop took place at Sedbergh Primary on Thursday 28 November, where over 140 pupils engaged in a day of music making. Victoria Hudson, headteacher of the school, commented: “The sessions were fun and high energy, and children were able to feel successful.”
On Wednesday 11 December, three schools from Cockermouth played trumpets and trombones before being visited by internationally acclaimed trombone quartet BONE-AFIDE, who treated the pupils to their first ever brass concert experience.
