Paul Richards has been elected to join the BBE Board as its latest Trustee, following this year’s Brass Bands England Annual General Meeting,
Paul is well known as the soprano cornet player of Flowers Band, and brings with him a wealth of playing experience as well as a deep understanding of the banding and business communities.
Alongside banding, Paul’s experience in business will be a valuable asset to the organisation. Having enjoyed a career that extends over 35 years, Paul has worked in senior roles for highly successful organisations like British Gas, Homeserve and The AA.
Paul commented: “I’m delighted to be joining the Trustees of Brass Bands England. There is so much that we as a community can be really proud of but there’s also a lot to do to help bands move on from COVID-19, to reach new audiences and to find new talent. I’m delighted to be part of BBE and look forward to supporting them in their objectives.”
BBE Chairman Mike Kilroy commented: “We are very happy to be welcoming Paul to the Board during this vital period as we resume banding activity. I know that he has a strong desire to give something back to the banding community, and his leadership skills, business acumen and banding experience will all be of huge benefit to influencing BBE’s direction and impact.
Paul replaces Max Stannard who is stepping down from the BBE Board after six years supporting the team. Max has played a vital role in shaping BBE’s youth offer as well as facilitating important events such as BBE Conferences.
Mike Kilroy continued: “I’d also like to thank Max for his hard work and endeavour over his six years as a BBE Board member. His insights and enthusiasm, particularly around BBE’s work with young people, have had a hugely positive impact on our activities.”
The BBE AMG also saw the re-election of long-serving Board members Gary Walczak and Shirley Woodward, who will continue to support the organisation throughout its next period of growth.
Recruitment for the Brass Bands England Board of Trustees will resume in 2022 ahead of its Annual General Meeting in September, and the organisation welcomes applications from all across the banding community and beyond. Please register to be updated on future opportunities.
