Safeguarding is an important priority for music-making organisations of all shapes and sizes but embedding good safeguarding practice into day-to-day activity, alongside a number of other demands and expectations, can be a challenge for any band.
Brass Bands England’s (BBE) new 'Check & Challenge' tool, developed in partnership with NSPCC, is a resource designed to help bands review and improve their current safeguarding practices, irrespective of their starting point. The tool can be used by an individual within a band, in a small group, or by a committee or board of trustees.
We’re asking banding organisations to ask themselves the following questions: is safeguarding something your organisation currently manages effectively, or is it something you’d like to work on further? Do you regularly monitor your safeguarding routines and practices? And do members of the organisation know the procedures that are in place? If the answer to any of these questions is “No”, we think you could benefit from this new self-assessment tool.
The tool guides you through the different areas to check, including a system of green and red flag checklists that make it easy to understand your band’s initial safeguarding fitness, how to prioritise the focus of your audit, and steps to create your action plan.
Presented as a downloadable PDF document, it can be used in the following ways:
- A workbook - print this off and work through the sections, writing your own notes;
- A presentation - ideal for using with a group of any size.
This new resource is available for use by members of Brass Bands England and is available to download from the BBE Member Resources Library. Find out more about joining BBE from just £25
