The Brass Bands Archive is the world’s largest archive dedicated to preserving global brass band heritage. Having begun life as one family’s collection of brass band material, the Brass Band Archive was formally established in the 1970s, and now in the care of Brass Bands England (BBE).
Archive survey
The BBE team are in the process of developing an evidence base to support funding applications that will support the future of the archive, so that it can become accessible to the banding community and the general public as a resource on all things brass bands.
BBE’s Relationship and Partnership Development Manager, Alex Parker, commented: “We are after your thoughts and ideas of what the archive can be but we also need to know our communities existing relationship with culture so we can demonstrate to our funders the impact that their support can make. We have created a short survey to help us understand who will want to access the archive, how they will use its resources, and why. Your contribution will be vital to the ongoing availability of the archive - so thank you to anyone who is able to input.”
Launching in 2023, the archive will be publicly accessible to researchers, brass bands enthusiasts and anyone else hoping to learn from over a century of banding heritage.
The archive survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete, and you will also have the opportunity to participate in a follow-up focus group, should you wish to.
