Chris began learning to play trombone with Frome Town Band in Somerset in the 1960s. He moved as Solo Trombone to Corsham Band in Wiltshire in 1975 and fulfilled some engagements with Sun Life Band of Bristol in the late '70s. After a move to Bedfordshire with his career in 1980 he became Solo Trombone with Heath Band in Bedfordshire, a position he held for 25 years, stepping down to take over briefly as their Musical Director between 2005 and 2009. In 2014 he was given a 50 year long service award by the Wessex Brass Band Association. After a long association with Ampthill Town Band as their Musical Director between 1993 and 2019 Chris stepped down just before lockdown and took up the same position with Great Horwood Silver Band in June 2021.
