The European Brass Band Association have announced the programme of events for the 2023 European Brass Band Championships in Malmö, Sweden.
The whole festival takes place over two weeks, with the first event in the beautiful All Saints Church (Allhelgonakyrkan), in Lund, near Malmö on Tuesday 25th April. Following this, there are further concerts in Lund, and on the Wednesday evening, the Malmö Brass Band perform in the historic Malmö Palladium along with soloists from the Lund Culture School.
Saturday 29th April sees the European Youth Brass Band assembling from across Europe for their first rehearsal. On Monday 1st May, the competitions begin in earnest, with the Semi-Finals for the European Soloist Competition taking place in the Malmö Live Kuben. On Wednesday 3rd May, again in Lund, there is a Lunchtime concert featuring a lecture and performances on reconstructions of 3000-year
ceremonial old horns – where it all began!
The President of Brassmusik Skåne, Bo Winborg, is proud of the two-week programme. He explains that the ambition is to present brass bands, through a diverse series of events, to a wider audience. This is done by collaborating with various choirs and through newly commissioned music by both rock musicians and representatives of classical music. They have addressed young learners and a mature audience. "Finally, we wanted to present you to our region's history through musical impressions," says Bo Winborg.
For the first time, the European Brass Band Championships will take place in Sweden.
