Following applications for the third round of Brass Bands England’s (BBE’s) Elevate programme the participating band has been announced as City of Bristol Brass Band.
The award-winning Elevate scheme is a collaborative initiative bringing together brass bands and artists to create and learn together across a nine-month partnership. From the roster of Elevate artists, City of Bristol have chosen to be paired with Sonic Threads Duo, a daring and innovative pair of artists whose mission is to merge Eastern and Western influences to create unique and powerful performances.
Supriya and Lucy said: “We are very much looking forward to creating and performing a new piece collaboratively with City of Bristol. We plan to start by workshoping composition ideas based upon improvisation and movement, whilst also exploring the use of airflow and brass sounds. The idea is that together we’ll create something with a distinct sound that transcends cultural and genre boundaries - we’re excited at the prospect of these different musical worlds colliding!”
Craig Roberts, Musical Director of City of Bristol Brass Band, said: “The band have a heritage of collaboration, from performing beneath the wings of the iconic Concorde at Aerospace Bristol, to playing with a massed choir at Bristol Cathedral last year. We’re really looking forward to including all parts of the organisation in this project, including our training band, and bringing the outcome into our community through both workshops and performances.”
New artists added and limited chances to apply
Applications for Round 4 of Elevate will open on Monday 9 September via the Elevate page on the Brass Bands England website. Following Round 4, Elevate will run for two remaining rounds of the programme. To be alerted when band entry opens individuals can register for the BBE newsletter.
