“Brass at the Castle” is a celebration of Cumbria’s Brass Band heritage. It will unite brass bands from across Cumbria, showcase their unique cultural contributions and inspire new collaborations. The event will launch the Cumbria Brass Network which will promote cohesion, inclusivity and youth involvement in banding.
The organisers aim to break down barriers to participation, especially for those facing rural transport challenges, as well as marginalised communities. The weekend will link bands with schools, community groups and individuals with special needs. There is a rich musical tapestry of brass music in Cumbria which this event will help to capture, document, share and sustain through recordings and this dedicated website, to create a lasting impact on this region’s cultural legacy.
